Hi, I’m Rick Lockamy. Welcome to my blog. I’m a geologist with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. I have been fascinated with geography and in love with maps all my life. Recently, I’ve become obsessed with the new technology that makes presenting visual data easier than ever before. My philosophy is simple: The world is crowded as never before. Still most people live better than would have been dreamed possible in times not long past. My world—one of maps, geography and history—is tied together by the rocks and soil people live on. The promise of living a life rich as the world allows is and always will be limited by how we see and think about the land we live on. Now is a fascinating time to live, think and work in this world. To be exposed to ideas and different ways of thinking and seeing enhances that world. I hope you will enjoy my maps and my thoughts about them, and I invite you to share yours.
